Alvin Lee Davis

Alvin Lee Davis, 81, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Memorial Health University Medical Center, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Scott Davis; his son and daughter-in-law, Randall Davis and Suzanne Simmons Davis, and their children, Carson and Parker Davis; his daughter, Sandra Davis, and her children, Alyssa and Davis Trenaman; his son and daughter-in-law Andrew Davis and Amy Ellison Davis, and their children, Andrew, Coleman, and Emma Davis; and many other dear relatives and friends.
Alvin was native Savannahian, born on January 8, 1934. He graduated from Savannah High School in 1952. Alvin married Joyce Scott Davis in 1953, and together they raised three children; Randy, Sandy, and Andy.
In 1951, Alvin joined the National Air Guards, receiving an honorable discharge in 1959 after eight years of service. He worked for Sears, Roebuck & Company and Union Camp until he opened his own construction company, Alvin L. Davis, Inc. in 1965, where he went into real estate, residential and commercial construction, and development. In following decades, he would have a hand in building in or developing many subdivisions in Chatham County and surrounding areas. Alvin was a faithful member of Wilmington Island United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Savannah Board of Realtors, the Board of Directors of the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, and a long time member and past president of the Greater Savannah Home Builder's Association. Alvin was also a member of Solomon's Masonic Lodge and Alee Temple Shrine, where he became a member of the Royal Order of Jesters and a founding member of the Keystone Kops. He was also a member of the Tybee Lite Shrine Club, Member of Royal Order of Elks #183, and Member of The Savannah Golf Club.
The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Beard, Dr. Larry Horesh, Dr. Dana Kumjian, and the Coastal Dialysis Center employees for exemplary care.
The funeral service will be held at the Hodgson Chapel of Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors on Saturday, August 15th, 2015 at 11am. Private interment will follow for members of the family at Bonaventure Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Life – Porter Room at Alee Temple at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The family kindly suggests any remembrances be made in his memory to Wilmington Island United Methodist Church (195 Wilmington Island Road, Savannah, GA 31410) or the Shriners Hospital for Children (12502 USF Pine Drive, Tampa, FL 33612).
